Review of the EU legislation for 06/01/2025 – 13/01/2025

1. Haddock Fishing Reopening (Regulation 2025/55):

  • Allows French vessels to resume fishing for haddock in Norwegian waters (areas 1 and 2)
  • Takes effect from November 8, 2024
  • Reopening based on France still having available quota
  • Repeals previous prohibition under Regulation 2024/2813

2. Herring Fishing Closure (Regulation 2025/64):

  • Prohibits Irish vessels from fishing herring in areas 6b, 6aN and international waters of 5b
  • Takes effect from December 13, 2024
  • Closure due to exhaustion of Ireland’s 2024 quota
  • Allows processing of catches made before closing date
  • Requires recording of any unintended catches

3. Cod Fishing Reopening (Regulation 2025/56):

  • Permits French vessels to resume cod fishing in Norwegian waters (areas 1 and 2)
  • Takes effect from November 7, 2024
  • Reopening based on France having remaining quota
  • Repeals previous closure under Regulation 2024/2870
