Law Amending the Qualification Examination Procedure for Judicial Candidates and Sitting Judges

The law introduces changes to the qualification examination procedure for judicial candidates and sitting judges. A new examination format is established, which includes anonymous testing of cognitive abilities, knowledge of Ukrainian statehood history, general legal knowledge, and practical tasks in the chosen specialization.

Structurally, the law amends Article 74 (regarding the procedure for taking the qualification examination), Article 82 (concerning the specifics of judicial qualification assessment), and Section XII ‘Final and Transitional Provisions’ of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Judicial System and Status of Judges’.

    Key provisions of the law:

    • A passing score is set at no less than 75% of the maximum possible for testing and practical tasks

    • An option to choose court specialization is provided: administrative, commercial, or general

    • Examination results are valid for two years

    • Mandatory testing on Ukrainian statehood history is introduced (one year after publication)

    • All information about examination results is publicly accessible
