Good day! The Law of Ukraine “On Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the Extension of the Term of Martial Law in Ukraine” extends the term of martial law in Ukraine for the period specified by the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 235/2025 of April 15, 2025. In fact, with this law, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the President’s decision to extend martial law.
The structure of the law is very simple: it consists of two articles. The first article approves the Decree of the President, and the second defines the procedure for the law to enter into force – immediate announcement through the media and entry into force from the date of publication. This law does not introduce any changes to previous versions of legislation, but only extends the term of the already existing martial law regime.
The most important provision of this law is the very fact of approving the Presidential Decree on the extension of martial law. This means that restrictions on the rights and freedoms of citizens, provided for by the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law”, continue to apply on the territory of Ukraine, and relevant powers are granted to military administrations and other bodies defined by law.
